Sodahead Endorses Jenerette...
The great people over at Sodahead on Katherine Jenerette
"Yesterday’selection demonstrated clearly that the 1st District will be a battleground in the 2010 election,” Jenerette said from Fort Bragg were she is presently training in Middle East Counter-Terrorism and Special Operations. “The Democrats smell the blood in the water and we better show up prepared to go toe-to-toe this time around." ~Katherine Jenerette, 1st U.S.
On Wednesday, Katherine Jenerette, a former US Congressional Field Representative for the 1st District, a veteran of the Persian Gulf War,and a US Army Reserve Officer announced her bid for the 1st District US Congressional Seat in the 2010 and the beginning of her campaign.
“Yesterday’selection demonstrated clearly that the 1st District will be a battleground in the 2010 election,” Jenerette said from Fort Bragg were she is presently training in Middle East Counter-Terrorism and Special Operations.
“When a four term incumbent Republican in a ‘safe’ Republican district holds the seat with a slim margin of only four percent of the votes - that spells big problems in
the next Congressional election,” Jenerette said.
Jenerette, who worked for Rep. Brown as a US Congressional Field representative for the 1st District said that her entry into the race is no reflection on her great respect towards his service as our Congressman since 2000.
“Confidential sources close to Capitol Hill have informed me that this will be his last term,” Jenerette said, “Which means we’ve got a street fight on our hands to keep this Congressional seat in the Republican camp - the Democrats smell the blood in the water and we better show up prepared to go toe-to-toe this time around.”
Jenerette said the top three issues facing the coastal Carolina region and our nation is “the economy followed by the economy followed by the economy.”
She added that the Wall Street Bail out was a bad move and represents too much government intrusion into our consumer driven market economy.
“The bail-out concept is trickle-down welfare and is worse than a bad idea,it was plain dumb. For free-market economic big-wig players to stickout their tin-cups to the government and the tax payers and expect a‘free lunch hand-out’ because of their own incompetence is borderline socialism,” Jenerette said.
“We won’t have a free market for very long if we keep screwing with it the way Congress has with the bail-out.Trickle-down welfare just adds another level of government intrusion that only results in more federal dependency.”
Jenerette said that her legislative agenda includes the priority issues of; the Economy, National Security, Education, Regional Tourism, District Roads and Infrastructure, Out-of Control-Spending, Illegal Immigration, Health Care among other issues and that she would be releasing position papers in the weeks ahead.
"My time as a field representative for our district allowed me to understand the nuts and bolts of local, state and federal government at work with one another,"she said.
"I understand our business concerns, our tourism industry, our environmental concerns, our veterans' issues and needs, and ourgrowing retiree population's concern for their future.”
Jenerette is a veteran of the district political scene and she finished the June2008 Republican primary with a solid second place finish in a three-manrace against Rep. Brown and Paul Norris gaining nearly twenty-percent of the total votes.
I became politically active when Ireturned from the first Persian Gulf War and went to college so, I understand all too clearly that government and being a congressman is about people who get up in the morning, go to work, or send their kids to school, open the doors of their businesses and do the best they can in a bureaucratic framework with rules made in Washington and it’s tough." After coming home from the Gulf War, Katherine attended the University of South Carolina, Coastal Carolina Campus on a Cross Country and Track scholarship. She graduated from CCU and earned her Masters Degree from USC, Columbia.
“I’ve been in local, state and national politics and I know this is going to be an uphill fight,” Jenerette said.
“But you don’t get into South Carolina politics without expecting every political and personal enemy you ever had to sharpen their knives and come after you big time. Just look at the treatment Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin has been put through during and after this year’s Presidential election. This is nothing new if you go against the status quo. I’m just starting this fight early and I expect it to be a tough campaign.”
